What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an alternative to traditional metal braces without wires or pain and is one of the most popular technologies used by Orthodontists for straightening your teeth. The Invisalign technology is unique compared to traditional braces because it uses no wires or brackets which means that there is nothing in your mouth to poke or irritate the inside of the mouth. Invisalign consists of a series of transparent, removable aligners that are made of a smooth plastic material, which are then custom designed to move teeth gradually, step by step, into their ideal position in your mouth. Because the Invisalign aligners are clear, most people won’t even notice when you are wearing Invisalign, which makes Invisalign a very popular way to straighten your teeth and is the number one alternative to traditional braces in the industry.

What Can I Expect with Invisalign?

The Invisalign aligners fit over your teeth and apply pressure to move your teeth, little by little to obtain the desired results that you and your Orthodontist are seeking.  With each new aligner in the series, you will see a change in your appearance and your bite.  One of the great benefits of Invisalign, is unless you happen to lose or damage an Invisalign tray, you should not have any emergencies.  We traditionally give patients four aligners at each visit and each aligner is worn for a two week period of time and you take them out only to eat, brush or drink. Invisalign patients are usually seen every six to eight weeks to track progress and evaluate success or issues. On Average the total time you will be in treatment is between 12-15 months and over that time you will have between 15 to 30 different aligners, but of course each patient is different and these numbers can vary from case to case.
